Wondering what those pinwheels are doing on the front lawn of the meeting? Organized by The Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and sponsored by local organizations and businesses, the gardens represent the courage and commitment shown by Bucks County individuals in reporting more than 800 cases of suspected child abuse last year, according to Leslie Slingsby, CAC director. “The gardens are to raise awareness that everyone in Bucks County—not only police and agencies designed to address child abuse—can play a role in preventing and ending child abuse,” Slingsby said. Pinwheels for Prevention is a national campaign that takes place every April in honor of Child Abuse Prevention month. Sponsored locally by the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center, more than 60 locations in Bucks County are participating this year, including our meeting.

A visit with Pete Styer at Friends Village

Setting up the raised beds (built by Dwayne Gessner), filling with topsoil and compost, and planting cool weather crops (lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, and Brussell sprouts). These community gardens will be tended by Meeting families and the produce will be available to the entire Meeting family, with any surplus being donated to the Penndel Food Pantry.

Middletown Friends held a luncheon on Sunday, February 2 to honor Hubert Pinkerton, a Langhorne Boy Scout,who designed and installed a flower garden by the graveyard wall along Maple Avenue. Hubert is shown here with Property Committee David DiMicco, who worked with the scouts to coordinate the project.

The Children’s FDS class performed a play “The Gift of Love,” based on a story by Leo Tolstoy and adapted by Nancy Pickering, for an appreciative audience on Sunday, Dec.16.
